India has been drinking sugarcane juice since centuries without anybody complaining. Actually, the drink is refreshing. invigorating and best protection against sun's ultraviolet rays of April, May, June and July. Generally, the marginal and poor farmers come to cities in the beginning of summer and set up their cane juice selling business.
They buy cylindrical cane crushing machine (about Rs 10,000), a power generator (about Rs 5,000) and a tin or stone covered table to serve juice. They just take up their position on any footpath. And their customers line up right from early morning to late night to have the juice.
But the fly in the ointment is a large unemployed and idle population who is not happy to see these entrepreneurs earning their lively hood honestly.
Although they pay the Government Rs 2,000 per month as license fee, their goods are confiscated without giving them any receipt or other evidence.
All this is done on the pretext of sugacane juice causes gastroenteritis.
But the Government never constituted a comprehensive doctors' committee, consisting of Ayurvedic (traditionalIndian system of medicine), Unani (ancient Greek system of medicine) and Siddha (herbal medicine) or Homeopathic medicine to determine whether cane juice did cause gastroenteritis.
With allopathic system of medicine in India has gained notoriety because of its doctors alleged negligence of patients, some of whom allegedly died on the examining tables awaiting their doctors, who, in turn, are, allegedly, waiting for illegal gratification from the patients families.
Who would believe them when they say that sugarcane juice causes gastroenteritis ? That is just an opinion not a proper medical conclusion arrived at by all the different medical practitioners.
